Faculty of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies

Origins:

The faculty was founded in 1369 A.H. during the reign of His Highness King `Abdul `Aziz, and, for 16 years, it has carried out its mission with multitudes of students graduating from the faculty and joining its teaching staff. In 1384/1385 A.H., it was named the Faculty of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies and included three departments:

  • Shari`ah
  • Arabic Language
  • Islamic History and Culture

These departments fulfilled both the goals of the community and the female students. The faculty has become an educational center - contributing to raising the level of Islamic culture inside and outside the Kingdom - and a research center in various fields. In 1391 A.H., the faculty was annexed to King `Abdul `Aziz University in Jeddah and in 1401/1402 A.H., along with the Faculty of Education and the Arabic Language Institute for Non-Arabic Speakers, it formed the core of Umm Al-Qura University.
