Laboratory Medicine Program

College of Applied Medical Sciences' Laboratory Medicine Program features only one specialty, namely, medical laboratories. In the course of such specialty, a student is liable for selecting and conducting appropriate analysis to contribute to the diagnosis of and protection against ailment, the treatment, verification of and linking analysis results to the case in hand as well as to the improvement of the examinations and analysis performed by the laboratory. The responsibilities of a Laboratory Medicine Program graduate also include the management of the laboratory, development of the organizational structure and quality assurance. The term of study of the specialty is 4 years concluded with a residency year, in which a student completes the study of 132 study units throughout the four years and the residency year. Up to 1427 A.H., 18 classes of male students and 4 of female students graduated from the Laboratory Medicine Program specialty.

Laboratory Medicine Program Objectives:  

  • Medical laboratory establishment and management.
  • Application of scientific theories on which medical analysis methods have been based.
  • Implementation of all analysis and examinations in various laboratory departments.
  • Professional handling of devices in use and medical analysis methods.
  • Determination of samples to be taken for each analysis and the manner they are transported to the laboratory and handled.
  • Explanation of the impact of some elements on the analysis results.
  • Application of quality programs.
  • Perception of the significance and impact of laboratory medicine specialty on the promotion of public health level in the KSA.

Second: Classrooms and Halls: are equipped with the state-of-the-art means of medical education.

Third: Medical Colleges library: equipped with recent medical references and books in the specialties of the College.

Laboratory Medicine Program Careers:

The Program graduates can serve as laboratory specialist in all health sectors in the course of health Saudization policy.

Department Activities & Achievements

  • The students of Laboratory Medicine Program have attained the first three ranks in the 3rd Student Academic Gathering of Applied Medical Sciences (held 1-2.4.1428 A.H. at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, King Abdul Aziz University.
  • Nominating a group of students to take part in the Scientific Conference for the Students of Faculties of Medicine in Oman Medical College in Oman (11-13.3.1429 A.H.).
  • The College intends to nominate another set of students to participate in the 21st Scientific Conference for Medical Sciences Students to be held in Istanbul this year.
