The Bachelor's Degree Program in Social Service

Introduction:

In its sixth session held on 5/5/1425 A.H, the University council agreed on the B.A. program in social service. The council had reviewed and developed such program along the lines of the recent scientific, practical and social advances both locally and globally. The B.A. Degree syllabus includes 132 credit hours, including 33 credit hours for university and college curricula, and 99 other credit hours for departmental curricula as listed below. The program development committee has paid special attention to field training, which is the practical application of the theoretical knowledge that a student acquires throughout the years of academic study. This is the basic training for the social specialist as it shapes students' skills and character and makes them career-oriented. Therefore, the program includes field training offered at four levels equal to 14 credit hours as shown in the course specifications listed below, in addition to the hours which the training requires. Generally speaking, the most important objectives of the field training are:

1. Applying the theoretical basics and concepts in the career on the society in line with the circumstances of the local environment and Islamic teachings and bringing close the theoretical and applied aspects of social service that the student learns.

2. Adopting the practical application of the methods of basic social service (individual and group service - social organization) including technical methods, as well as ways of helping (managing social establishments - social research) and employing the practical knowledge that a student has learned from other curricula to enhance his performance.

3. Analyzing the various work methods in training establishments as well as their technical and administrative systems, whether those establishments are governmental or non-governmental, primary or secondary.

4. Enabling students the career experiences in practicing various fields of social service, as well as shaping the personal, psychological, social and mental aspects of students' lives so they can carry out their role as should be, in addition to helping them to increase their career potentials in registering, supervising and evaluating.

5. Associating career practice in various fields with the findings of social research in those fields.
