Praise be to Allah and Peace be Upon the Last Prophet, The establishment of the Department of Literature, a landmark in the College of Arabic Language and Literature, dates back to the foundation of the university when the Department of Arabic Language was opened in 1385-1386 A.H. The literary subjects taught represented the hub of an integrated system on which the Department of Literature was later on based when the Department of Arabic Language was changed to the College of Arabic Language and Literature in Umm Al-Qura University. The Department of Literature has always been a pioneer in the study of literature where a select teaching staff from the Arab world works. This has been reflected on its outputs, which are appreciated by all universities in our beloved country as well as the various establishments concerned with language and literature. We ask Allah the Almighty that the contributions of this Department successfully continue and that it achieves its objectives, in the framework of stressing the importance of the role that literature plays in the lives of individuals and nations...
