Establishment:
The Guidance and Counseling center was established in 1426 A.H. It provides comprehensive supporting programs for the university students, which include useful counseling, sincere advice, scientific help, social guidance and psychological therapy, to assist the personal development of university students, help them explore and develop their skills, encourage them to be creative and help them understand themselves and their academic orientation. Thus, they graduate in the university having acquired scientific and practical skills that offers them a good job opportunity and enables them to face the requirements of life in a better way.
Aims:
The center aims at achieving the ambitions of the university in helping female students understand their problems, and treating them in a useful way that results in a generation of students that have knowledge, faith, self-confidence and ability to participate in the development of our country, through the following aims:
- Introducing new female students to the university life.
- Strengthening the role of academic guidance, in coordination with the registration administration, libraries and different sections.
- Offering counseling, and social and psychological assistance to those who are having problems among the students, whether in counseling settings or through individual or collective guidance.
- Offering preventive pieces of advice, by presenting the hardships that might be encountered by female students, how to face them and prevent their occurrence.
- Encouraging the academic learning, raising the standards of female students and removing impediments in the way of learning for them.
- Taking care of the weak female students and following them up until their academic standard improves.
- Taking care of the talented and excellent female students, develop their talents and support their creativity in coordination with the students' activities administration.
- Studying behavioral phenomena and problems that might arise in the life of some female students, and trying to figure out apt solutions for them.
- Preparing specialized programs and making studies in the field of students' guidance in cooperation with the Research Institute and different colleges.
- Offering help, assistance and guidance for female students whose problems require referral to the Disciplinary Committee.
Services:
The center offers many services to female university students, including:
- Guidance services for all female university students through awareness programs that introduce the university, its colleges, its deanships, and how can a female student benefit from its services in cooperation with the colleges, deanships, and specialized administrations in the university. It also introduces them to the changes that might take place to them in their university life and how to deal with them through the center programs designed in the form of introductory episodes, preliminary week and specialized courses held for that purpose.
- Offering guidance programs for female students to guide them, and minimize the negative phenomena and non-ethical problems that might arise in their lives in the university in general, and in the female students' apartments in particular.
- Providing different sources of information, such as educational tapes and illustrative means; issuing periodicals and booklets specialized in guidance, in cooperation with the relevant entities; and enabling female students to have access to them in order to facilitate their request for guidance services.
- Offering specialized guidance services to female students through direct counseling between the student and the social assistant, psychological therapist or academic guide in defined appointments between the student and the guides, that are held in privacy, to make sure the student talks about her problems freely and reach solutions that match with her personality, circumstances, abilities and the university potentials.
- Offering collective guidance service by the academic guides, psychological therapists and social assistants to a number of female students at the same time, in a way that suits their aims, interests and problems. All of them discuss their problems collectively, so that they learn the art of dealing with others; build their self-confidence; and learn effective communication skills, fruitful conversation and team work. Thus, the contributors to this program must sign a pledge to keep the true features of contributing to such a form of guidance.
- Helping female students who are willing to move to another section to choose the suitable one for their abilities, potentials and future ambitions.
- Enhancing abilities through programs that include awareness lectures, courses and workshops that are prepared and planned periodically by the center to support and enhance the academic and social abilities of the contributors.
- Guidance programs of female students in cooperation with the registration deanship, by referring the frequently absent students or those who are under academic supervision to the center, so that their situation is inspected, and each of them given the required guidance services through the following programs:
- Social guidance program.
- Psychological guidance program.
- Academic guidance program.
The center also provides career guidance programs for the female students who are:
- o Academic failures who could not keep their seats in the university.
- o Graduates who seek a job opportunity but their specialties do not enable them to find one, as they are not highly required in the market. They are given specialized career programs to raise their career awareness, help them make sound decisions related to their careers, and provide them with instructions and skills that enhance their job hunting opportunities.
