The
College of Sharia and Islamic Studies is the root of UQU.
Established in 1369H during the reign of King Abdul Aziz, this
college was the first step towards higher education in the Kingdom.
It was first under the supervision of the Ministry of Education.
Then in 1384/1385H it was renamed the College of Sharia and Islamic
Studies. Later in 1391H, it became part of King AbdulAziz
University. Finally in 1401/1402H, along with the Arabic Language
Institution for non-Arabic Speakers the basis of UQU was formed.
